Men’s Soccer Caps Road Swing With Win

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's soccer team tallied two goals in the final 18 minutes of regulation Sunday afternoon to earn a comeback 2-1 victory at St. Norbert.

Trailing 1-0 late in the second half, Devin Howard (Dublin, Ohio/Jerome) found the back of the net on a header in the 73rd minute. Zack Kristy (Burr Ridge, Ill./Lyons Township) was credited with the assist on the game-tying goal.

Howard and Alec Sykes (Milwaukee, Wis./West Allis Hale) each put shots on goal over the next 10 minutes before Jacob Mouille (Waunakee, Wis./Waunakee) submitted the game-winner in the 88th minute. Mouille's free kick was deflected back to him, and he found the back of the net to put the Warhawks (6-1-1 overall) ahead for good.

UW-Whitewater held slight edges on the Green Knights (5-4-1) in shots (14-10), shots on goal (8-6) and corner kicks (7-6).

Goalkeeper Jake King (McHenry, Ill./McHenry West) posted five saves in the win.

St. Norbert earned four corner kicks over the first 12-plus minutes of the contest, and put the first shot on goal in the 13th minute. The Warhawks countered with four shots, including three on goal, as well as one corner kick over the next five minutes of action.

King recorded saves in the 19th and 22nd minutes to keep the match scoreless.

The two teams traded shots over the rest of the first half, but the match remained scoreless.

The Green Knights took the lead in the 48th minute on a breakaway goal and continued to pressure the UW-W defense with two corner kicks in the five minutes after.
