The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's soccer team suffered its first loss of the 2021 season Friday night, falling 2-0 at Washington-St. Louis in a non-conference contest.
The Warhawks (5-1-1 overall) held a 13-10 edge in shots and posted just as many shots on goal (6), but were unable to overcome WashU goals in the 28th and 74th minutes.
UW-Whitewater created the first offensive chances of the match in the eighth minute, recording a shot followed by the first corner kick for either team.
The Bears (6-1) tallied three corner kicks over a two-minute span before a header by UW-W's
Faizan Mohiuddin (South Elgin, Ill./St. Charles North) was saved on the other end.
WashU took the lead midway through the first half on a penalty kick. Moments later,
Jacob Mouille (Waunakee, Wis./Waunakee) hit the post on a shot attempt, and, in the 42nd minute, had his second shot of the half saved.
The Bears put three shots on goal and added a corner kick over the first 10 minutes of the second half. UW-Whitewater responded with three shots, including two on goal, and a corner kick over a 12-minute span just past the midway point of the period.
After WashU's second goal, the Warhawks put two more shots on net, but were shut out for the first time in 2021.
Jake King (McHenry, Ill./McHenry West) made two saves in goal for UW-Whitewater.
The Warhawks conclude their three-match road swing Sunday at St. Norbert. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. in De Pere, Wis.
