Women’s Soccer Shuts Out Grinnell

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's soccer team improved to 4-1 in true road games Wednesday afternoon with a 4-0 triumph at Grinnell (Iowa) in a non-conference match.

The Warhawks (4-3 overall) tallied two goals in each half and controlled possession for nearly 60 percent of the match.

Anna Brodjian (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) recorded what proved to be the game-winner in the ninth minute for her team-leading sixth goal of the year. The goal was the culmination of a fierce UW-W attack over the first eight-plus minutes, when the team recorded two corner kicks and four shots.

UW-Whitewater continued the pressure throughout the half and found the back of the net just before time expired. Emily Thill (West Chicago, Ill./St. Francis) registered her first goal as a Warhawk in the 45th to give UW-W a 2-0 lead into halftime.

The Warhawks and Pioneers (1-6) each posted shots on goal in the first 20 minutes of the second half, but UW-Whitewater found another goal as Elizabeth Klein (Burlington, Wis./Catholic Central) finished a pass from Sarah Clancy (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) in the 72nd minute.

The Warhawks tacked on another goal in the 79th as Savannah Curtis (Lodi, Wis./Lodi) collected her first goal of the season on an assist from Nina Malak (Middleton, Wis./Middleton).

Goalkeepers Leah Eisenbarth (Lake Barrington, Ill./Barrington) and Drew Antcliff (Kewadin, Mich./Elk Rapids) combined for the shutout. Eisenbarth (3-2) totaled two saves in 45 minutes, and Antcliff registered three saves in her 45 minutes.

Olivia May (Elkhorn, Wis./Elkhorn Area) finished with a team-high four shots, including one on goal. Brodjian attempted three shots (two on goal), and Klein and Carli Nehls (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) recorded two shots apiece, including one on goal.

UW-Whitewater hosts Augsburg (Minn.) this Saturday at 5 p.m. at Fiskum Field. The Warhawks will recognize the 30th season of the program and alumni in attendance at halftime of the contest.
