Women’s Soccer Earns Comeback Win

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's soccer team tallied two goals in the final 15 minutes of regulation Sunday morning on its way to a 3-2 victory at Rhodes on the final day of the "W" Challenge in Memphis, Tenn.

Anna Brodjian (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) posted all three goals for the Warhawks (3-3 overall), who held a 16-6 advantage in shots, a 5-4 edge in shots on goal and a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks. Brodjian's hat trick was the second of her career (at UW-River Falls on Nov. 2, 2019).

Two minutes after the Lynx (3-1-1) took the lead in the eighth minute, Brodjian put a ball from outside the box into the right corner to level the match at 1-1.

UW-Whitewater fended off a Rhodes corner kick and kept the pressure on the defense, recording six more shots and one corner kick over the final 25 minutes of the half.

Rhodes took the lead back just under three minutes into the second half. Brodjian had a shot saved in the 56th minute, and a shot by Anna Boyd (De Pere, Wis./De Pere) hit the crossbar in the 65th.

Brodjian tied the match in the 76th minute as Katie Swenson (Wauwatosa, Wis./East) earned the assist.

The Warhawks continued their pressure in the offensive third, and Brodjian found the back of the net again for the game-winner with three minutes to play. Katy Kusswurm (South Elgin, Ill./St. Charles North) was credited with the assist on the play.

The Lynx' lone shot over the final three minutes of action was off target as UW-Whitewater earned a split of the weekend's two matches.

Goalkeeper Leah Eisenbarth (Lake Barrington, Ill./Barrington) collected two saves in her 90 minutes of action.

The Warhawks visit Grinnell (Iowa) for a non-conference match Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
