Women’s Tennis Extends WIAC Win Streak to 114

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's tennis team earned a pair of road wins in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on Friday and Saturday.
 
The Warhawks (8-0 overall, 4-0 WIAC) topped UW-Eau Claire 6-3 on Friday afternoon before heading to UW-La Crosse and heading home with a 7-2 victory.
 
UW-Whitewater extended its unbeaten streak in WIAC dual matches to 114 and remained unbeaten in all duals for the fall.
 
Against the Blugolds (0-1, 0-1), the Warhawks dropped two of three doubles matches to trail 2-1 early in the dual. Bethany Marshall (Cary, Ill./Cary-Grove) and Kellie Ha (Palatine, Ill./Fremd) came away with the lone doubles win by an 8-7 (4) score at the third position. All three doubles matches were decided by two games or fewer.
 
Autumn Bruno (Milwaukee, Wis./Greenfield Whitnall) and Cassie Lee (Downers Grove, Ill./Timothy Christian) pushed UW-Whitewater ahead with straight-set singles wins at Nos. 1 and 2, respectively. Gianna Nikoleit (Elmhurst, Ill./York Community) posted a 6-3, 6-2 triumph at No. 3 to give UW-W a 4-2 advantage.
 
Courtney Day (Oshkosh, Wis./North) sealed the dual for the Warhawks with a 6-2, 6-4 victory at No. 5. Molly Rueth (Wheaton, Ill./Glenbard West) accounted for the final margin with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 6.
 
In the match against UW-La Crosse (2-1, 1-1), UW-Whitewater took two of the three doubles spots. Rueth and Day combined for an 8-2 triumph at the second position, and Marshall and Ha came through with an 8-3 victory at the third slot.
 
Nikoleit was a 6-0, 6-0 winner at No. 3 singles, and Day collected a 6-3, 6-2 triumph at No. 5 to set up Marshall, who clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-0 victory at the sixth position.
 
Ha and Lee added wins at the Nos. 4 and 2 positions, respectively, to account for the final score.
 
The Warhawks host next week's Intercollegiate Tennis Association Midwest Regional, which begins Friday at the Warhawk Outdoor Tennis Complex.
