The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's soccer team remained unbeaten for the 2021 season Saturday afternoon with a 2-2 draw against St. John's (Minn.) in a non-conference contest at Fiskum Field.
The Warhawks (3-0-1 overall) scored a pair of goals in a 20-minute span in the second half before the Johnnies responded with two goals in the final eight minutes of regulation to force overtime.
Matthew Waters (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard South) tallied the first marker for UW-W in the 62nd minute, taking a ball, attacking his defender to the middle and firing a shot to the upper right corner from 18 yards out on the left side of the field.
Joey Pumo (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha North) made it 2-0 in the 81st minute on a header.
Nolan Ehlers (Grayslake, Ill./Warren Township) took the free kick to set up the goal to earn an assist.
St. John's (2-2-1) cut its deficit in half in the 83rd minute, and leveled the match with just one minute to play in regulation.
UW-Whitewater took two shots in the overtime and had one corner kick, but the match remained tied to head to a second 10-minute overtime period.
In the second OT,
Tucker Jahns (Elburn, Ill./Kaneland) put a shot on net in the 107th minute, but it was saved by the Johnnies' keeper.
The Warhawks finished with advantages in shots (14-11), shots on goal (8-5) and corner kicks (7-4).
Jake King (McHenry, Ill./McHenry West) tallied three saves in net, including a diving save in the 33rd minute that kept the match scoreless.
UW-Whitewater visits Luther (Iowa) Wednesday for a 7 p.m. match.
