Six all-conference performances highlighted the first day of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships Presented by Culver's for the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's and women's track and field teams.
The Warhawk men are third after the first day of competition with a score of 41 points, while the women are sixth with a total of 16 points.
On the women's side,
Gracie Holland (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield) and
Abigail Missiaen (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) placed second in their respective events to pick up All-WIAC honors.
Holland registered a personal-record height of 12-02.75 (3.73 meters) in the pole vault to move into the top 10 in the nation in the event. Missiaen established her career best with a toss of 126-00 (38.42 meters)
For the men,
David Fassbender (Slinger, Wis./Slinger) earned the WIAC championship in the 10,000-meter run with a career-best time of 30:02.44, good for the No. 2 personal record time in program history, a UW-River Falls facility record and a top 10 mark in NCAA Division III.
Kyle Neuroth (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) joined Fassbender in the top eight with his personal-best time of 31:09.74, good for the eighth-best PR in program history.
Christian Patzka (Black Earth, Wis./Wisconsin Heights) garnered All-WIAC accolades with his runner-up finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. His career-best time of 9:17.92 ranks among the top 10 in the nation and is the No. 8 personal record in program history. Patzka was joined on the podium by
Nate Fox (East Troy, Wis./East Troy), who finished seventh after crossing the finish line in 9:29.05, good for his career best.
Adam Schommer (Freedom, Wis./Freedom) posted a season-best height of 15-09.00 (4.80 meters) to finish second on pole vault. His mark ranks among the top 15 in NCAA Division III.
Griffin Gawenda (Grayslake, Ill./North) placed third in the long jump with a personal-record distance of 22-10.50 (6.97 meters).
Curtis Pfeil (West Bend, Wis./West) also reached the podium with a sixth-place finish in the javelin throw, tallying a career-record 170-09 (52.06 meters).
Dwayne Ford (Racine, Wis./Case) advanced to Saturday's finals in the 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash, placing third and fifth in his preliminary races, respectively. Others advancing to Saturday's finals include
Landon Keefover (Antioch, Ill./Antioch) in the 110-meter hurdles (15.14, 4th),
Brian Kuehl (Geneva, Ill./Geneva) in the 800-meter run (1:57.93) and
Luke Zanis (St. Charles, Ill./North) in the 400-meter dash (49.68).
Field events continue Saturday at 12 p.m., while track events are slated to begin at 2:30 p.m. Multi events will start at 9:30 a.m.
