Men, Women Host Drake Alternative Meet

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's and women's track and field teams hosted their second straight home meet Saturday for the Drake Alternative at Rex Foster Track.
 
On the men's side, event winners included Justin Krause (Ixonia, Wis./Pewaukee) in the 1,500-meter run, Christian Patzka (Black Earth, Wis./Wisconsin Heights) in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, Griffin Gawenda (Grayslake, Ill./North) in the long jump and Curtis Pfeil (West Bend, Wis./West) in the javelin throw.
 
Krause ran a personal record time of 3:54.58 in the 1,500, which ranks as the No. 7 PR in the event in school history, while Patzka posted his career best mark of 9:28.47 in the steeplechase, good for a top-20 national ranking and 10th all time in the program record book. Gawenda reached a distance of 22-01.00 (6.73 meters), and Pfeil launched the javelin a career-best 170-08 (52.01 meters).
 
UW-W's 4x100-meter relay team of Thomas Kelly (Brown Deer, Wis./Brown Deer), Dwayne Ford (Racine, Wis./Case), Victor Rinaldi (Medford, Wis./Medford) and Shelvin Garrett improved the team's top time in the event, posting a season-best 41.17, good for a top-10 mark in the nation. Ford finished second in the 200-meter dash in a personal-record time of 21.82 seconds, and Kelly was the runner-up in the 100-meter dash with a 10.97.
 
Daustin Martin (Jefferson, Wis./Jefferson) improved his NCAA Division III top-20 distance in the hammer throw, recording a personal-best 176-11 (53.93 meters).
 
In Friday's 10,000-meter run, David Fassbender (Slinger, Wis./Slinger) finished second with a time of 30:19.90, which was faster than the previous facility record and good for the No. 3 time in the event in program history. His time currently ranks among the top 10 in NCAA Division III. Kyle Neuroth (Muskego, Wis./Muskego), who placed ninth, was just under five seconds from breaking into the program's all-time top 10, finishing with a 31:25.08.
 
Shelby Nickels (Manitowoc, Wis./Lincoln) won the long jump to lead the women, posting a distance of 17-08.25 (5.39 meters). Maddie Keifer (Maple Park, Ill./Kaneland) placed second in the triple jump with an outdoor-best mark of 36-10.50 (11.24 meters).
 
Kenni Czarnecki (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) collected a 156-06 (47.70 meters) to finish as runner-up in the hammer throw. Paige Fassbender (Slinger, Wis./Slinger) placed third in the 800-meter run with her personal-record time of 2:17.40, which ranks seventh among top personal bests in program history, and Kylie Jacobs (Watertown, Wis./Watertown) finished fourth in the 400-meter dash, crossing the finish line in a career-best time of 59.81 seconds.
 
The Warhawks visit UW-Platteville Friday for the UW-Platteville Border Battle starting at 1 p.m.
