The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's tennis team claimed its 108th consecutive dual victory over a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponent Sunday as it defeated UW-La Crosse 8-1 at Wangerin Courts.
The Warhawks (10-5 overall, 6-0 WIAC), who completed the conference regular season slate with a 6-0 league record, swept the three doubles matches and took five of six in singles.
Molly Rueth (Wheaton, Ill./Glenbard West) and
Courtney Day (Oshkosh, Wis./North) collaborated for an 8-1 triumph at No. 3 doubles, and
Paige Nierman (Hawthorn Woods, Ill./Stevenson) and
Olivia Kraft (Bloomington, Ill./Normal Community) followed with an 8-5 win at No. 2.
Sabrina Palavra (Skokie, Ill./Niles North) and
Kasey Schlicht (Pewaukee, Wis./Pewaukee) provided the final doubles point with an 8-4 victory at the top spot.
Palavra downed Lauren Witt 6-1, 6-2 at No. 4 singles to give UW-W a 4-0 advantage, and Kraft provided the dual-clinching point with a 6-2, 6-1 triumph at No. 3.
Nierman posted a 6-4, 6-2 win at the second position, and Minkov registered a 6-3, 6-4 victory at the sixth position. Rueth completed the dual by defeating Morgan Graf 6-3, 6-4 at the fifth position.
UW-Whitewater visits national powerhouse Chicago this Wednesday for a 3 p.m. start before hosting the WIAC Championship next Saturday and Sunday, April 24-25, at Wangerin Courts.
