The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's and women's track and field teams returned home Friday and Saturday to host the Warhawk Invitational and Multi at Rex Foster Track.
On the women's side, event winners included
Kylie Jacobs (Watertown, Wis./Watertown) and
Ari De La Cerda (Milwaukee, Wis./Pewaukee) on the track and
Shelby Nickels (Manitowoc, Wis./Lincoln),
Maddie Keifer (Maple Park, Ill./Kaneland) and
Kenni Czarnecki (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) in field events.
Jacobs ran a personal-record time of 59.84 to claim the 400-meter dash. She was also part of the 4x400-meter relay team that also included
Katie McNamara (Geneva, Ill./Geneva),
Sarah Niehueser (Fond du Lac, Wis./Winnebago Lutheran Academy) and
Paige Fassbender (Slinger, Wis./Slinger). The group posted a season-best time of 4:07.43, good for second place at the meet.
De La Cerda crossed the finish line first in the 1,500-meter run with a team season-best 4:56.45. Nickels won the long jump with a mark of 17-05.25 (5.31 meters), while Keifer placed first in the triple jump with an outdoor season-best 36-10.25 (11.23 meters).
Czarnecki claimed the discus throw with a distance of 132-06 (40.38 meters).
For the men,
Dwayne Ford (Racine, Wis./Case) improved his career record time in the 100-meter dash with a 10.58 to win the race. He currently ranks second in NCAA Division III in the event. Ford also helped the 4x100-meter relay finish with a season-best time of 41.90. The group also included
Thomas Kelly (Brown Deer, Wis./Brown Deer),
Griffin Gawenda (Grayslake, Ill./North) and
Victor Rinaldi (Medford, Wis./Medford).
Other event winners on the track included
Luke Zanis (St. Charles, Ill./North) in the 400-meter dash (50.17),
Justin Krause (Ixonia, Wis./Pewaukee) in the 800-meter run (1:56.16),
Nate Fox (East Troy, Wis./East Troy) in the 1,500-meter run (4:09.35) and
Christian Patzka (Black Earth, Wis./Wisconsin Heights) in the 5,000-meter run (14:56.60). Zanis joined
Will Kaashagen (Cambridge, Wis./Cambridge),
Brian Kuehl (Geneva, Ill./Geneva) and
Zach Miller (Saukville, Wis./Port Washington) in the 4x400-meter relay to record a season-best 3:21.65.
Adam Schommer (Freedom, Wis./Freedom) was the lone first-place finisher for the men in field events, claiming the pole vault with a height of 14-05.25 (4.40 meters).
The Warhawks host the UW-Whitewater Drake Alternative next Saturday, April 24, starting at 12 p.m. at Rex Foster Track.
