The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's tennis team claimed its seventh straight dual victory Saturday, defeating UW-Eau Claire 9-0 in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest at Lake Geneva Tennis.
The Warhawks (8-5 overall, 4-0 WIAC) also extended their dual win streak over conference opponents to 106.
Paige Nierman (Hawthorn Woods, Ill./Stevenson) and
Olivia Kraft (Bloomington, Ill./Normal Community) put UW-Whitewater on the board with an 8-0 shutout at No. 2 doubles.
Molly Rueth (Wheaton, Ill./Glenbard West) and
Courtney Day (Oshkosh, Wis./North) tallied an 8-4 triumph at the No. 3 spot, and
Sabrina Palavra (Skokie, Ill./Niles North) and
Kasey Schlicht (Pewaukee, Wis./Pewaukee) bested Lindsey Henderson and Elaine Franta by an 8-7 (4) score at No. 1.
Schlicht extended the Warhawks' advantage to 4-0 with a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles. Palavra clinched the dual with a 7-5, 6-0 victory at No. 4.
Kraft collected a 6-4, 6-3 triumph at No. 3, and Rueth fought through a first-set tiebreaker for a 7-6 (6), 6-3 win at No. 5. Nierman secured a 3-6, 6-2, 7-6 (3) victory at the second position, and
Jessica Minkov (Schiller Park, Ill./East Leyden) overcame a loss in the first set for a 1-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-7) triumph at the sixth position.
UW-Whitewater resumes conference play Wednesday against UW-Stevens Point. First serve at Wangerin Courts is slated for 3:30 p.m.
