The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's and women's track and field teams began the 2021 outdoor season Saturday with the UW-Whitewater Spring Opener at Rex Foster Track.
Dwayne Ford (Racine, Wis./Case) ran a career-best time of 10.63 seconds in the 100-meter dash to lead the men. His mark currently leads NCAA Division III.
Ford also joined
Thomas Kelly (Brown Deer, Wis./Brown Deer),
Griffin Gawenda (Grayslake, Ill./North) and
Victor Rinaldi (Medford, Wis./Medford) to run the No. 3 time in the nation of 42.12 seconds in the 4x100-meter relay.
Other top performers on the men's side included
Brayden Zettle (Monroe, Wis./Monroe), who won the triple jump with a mark of 45-01.00 (13.74 meters), good for the No. 12 distance in the nation,
Daustin Martin (Jefferson, Wis./Jefferson), who finished first in the shot put and hammer throw and recorded the No. 14 toss in Division III in the hammer with a 165-03 (50.38 meters), and
Curtis Pfeil (West Bend, Wis./West), who won the long jump with a distance of 22-01.75 (6.75 meters), good for 15th in the nation.
Kenni Czarnecki (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) took the shot put and discus throw to lead the women. Her toss of 136-04 (41.56 meters) in the discus currently ranks second in NCAA Division III.
Maddie Keifer (Maple Park, Ill./Kaneland) placed first in the triple jump with a 36-05.50 (11.11 meters), good for the No. 9 mark in the nation.
Shelby Nickels (Manitowoc, Wis./Lincoln) claimed the long jump and recorded a distance of 17-02.25 (5.25 meters), good for 12th in the nation.
Gracie Holland (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield) won the pole vault with a height of 11-01.75 (3.40 meters), good for 14th in the country.
The Warhawks host the Rex Foster Twilight Friday starting at 2 p.m.
