The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's tennis team defeated its fifth straight opponent from the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Saturday afternoon, topping Wheaton (Ill.) 8-1 at Lake Geneva Tennis in Lake Geneva.
The Warhawks (6-1 overall) claimed all three doubles matches for the third time in their last four duals and took five of the six singles slots.
Alex Gray (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) and
Ryan Mitchell (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) were first on the board for UW-Whitewater with an 8-3 triumph at No. 1 doubles.
Parker Hearne (Roscoe, Ill./Hononegah) and
Ridley Aranda (Bayside, Wis./Nicolet) gave the team a two-point lead thanks to an 8-5 victory at the No. 3 position.
Noah Guillermo (Muskego, Wis./Marquette University HS) and
Cole Lindwall (Cottage Grove, Wis./Monona Grove) made it a doubles sweep with an 8-7 (5) win at No. 2.
Lindwall led his match 6-1, 2-0 before his opponent retired due to injury at the second position, and
Brayden Kopp (Roselle, Ill./Bellbrook (Ohio)) provided the dual-clinching point with a 6-2, 6-1 triumph at the fifth position.
Other winners included Mitchell in straight sets at the third position,
Brendan Pietila (Sussex, Wis./Arrowhead) in a third-set super tiebreaker at the fourth position, and Guillermo in straight sets at the No. 6 spot.
The Warhawks return to action April 11 at Coe. First serve is set for 2 p.m. in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
