The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's tennis team tallied its first shutout of the 2021 season Saturday, defeating Augustana (Ill.) 9-0 in a non-conference dual at Quad City Tennis Club in Moline, Ill.
The Warhawks (2-5 overall) swept the three doubles matches and didn't look back, claiming all six singles points without dropping a set.
Molly Rueth (Wheaton, Ill./Glenbard West) and
Courtney Day (Oshkosh, Wis./North) were first on the board for UW-Whitewater with an 8-1 triumph at No. 3 doubles.
Paige Nierman (Hawthorn Woods, Ill./Stevenson) and
Olivia Kraft (Bloomington, Ill./Normal Community) made it a 2-0 lead with an 8-2 win at No. 2, and
Sabrina Palavra (Skokie, Ill./Niles North) and
Kasey Schlicht (Pewaukee, Wis./Pewaukee) combined for an 8-6 victory at No. 1.
Schlicht gave UW-W its first singles point with a 6-3, 6-1 triumph at the top singles position.
Jessica Minkov (Schiller Park, Ill./East Leyden) clinched the dual with a 6-1, 6-2 win at the sixth position.
Rueth and Nierman were victorious in straight sets at the Nos. 5 and 2 slots, respectively. Kraft was a 6-4, 6-2 winner at No. 3, and Palavra finished the sweep with a 7-5, 7-6 (3) triumph at No. 4.
The Warhawks continue action Friday against North Central (Ill.). The dual is currently scheduled to be played at Wangerin Tennis Courts and will begin at 6 p.m.
