The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's and women's track and field teams kicked off the 2021 season Saturday with a dual meet against UW-Platteville at Kachel Fieldhouse.
The Warhawk men won nine of the 13 contested events, while the women claimed first place in eight of the 13 events.
Dwayne Ford (Racine, Wis./Case) crossed the finish line first in the 60-meter dash for the men, posting a time of 6.97, which currently ranks among the top 10 in NCAA Division III.
UW-Whitewater claimed four more events on the track.
Luke Zanis (St. Charles, Ill./North) won the 400-meter dash in 51.31, while
Mathias Otten (Sheboygan, Wis./Sheboygan Lutheran) took the 800-meter run in 2:00.39.
Christian Patzka (Black Earth, Wis./Wisconsin Heights) was impressive in his collegiate debut, winning the 1-mile run in 4:14.27, which ranks among the top 10 in the nation.
Lucas Skaaland (Westby, Wis./Westby) took the 60-meter hurdles in 8.53 seconds.
The Warhawks added four individual victories in field events.
Josh Krystosek (Palmyra, Wis./Palmyra-Eagle) tallied a height of 6-05.50 (1.97 meters) to win the high jump, and
Chris Bitz (Brookfield, Wis./East) vaulted a 13-11.25 (4.25 meters) to place first in the high jump.
Curtis Pfeil (West Bend, Wis./West) finished first in the long jump with a mark of 22.03.75 (6.80 meters).
Daustin Martin (Jefferson, Wis./Jefferson) led UW-W in both throwing events, including a first-place showing in the weight throw with a toss of 57-11.25 (18.37 meters), which currently leads the nation.
On the women's side,
Kylie Jacobs (Watertown, Wis./Watertown) was one of three winners on the track for the Warhawks, claiming the 400-meter dash in 1:02.39.
Paige Fassbender (Slinger, Wis./Slinger) crossed the finish line first in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:26.81, and
Hope Mylin (Algonquin, Ill./Harvest Christian Academy) posted a result of 10.24 seconds to best all competitors in the 60-meter hurdles.
UW-Whitewater nearly swept the field events.
Brooke Walling (Camp Douglas, Wis./Mauston) finished first in the high jump with a height of 5-00.25 (1.53 meters), and
Gracie Holland (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield) vaulted to a height of 11-05.00 (3.48 meters) in the pole vault, which is among the top 10 in Division III.
Shelby Nickels (Manitowoc, Wis./Lincoln) debuted with a distance of 18-02.50 (5.55 meters) in the long jump, which ranks among the nation's top five.
Maddie Keifer (Maple Park, Ill./Kaneland) registered a 35-05.00 (10.79 meters) in the triple jump to win the event.
Kenni Czarnecki (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) led the team in both throwing events, including first place in the shot put with a toss of 37-08.50 (11.49 meters).
The Warhawks host UW-Oshkosh for another dual next Saturday, Feb. 13, at 1 p.m.
