The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's tennis team was victorious in its first match against an NCAA Division III opponent during the 2021 season, defeating Millikin (Ill.) 8-1 Saturday in a dual at Lake Geneva Tennis.
The Warhawks (1-3 overall), who had previously faced only scholarship programs, surrendered only seven games in doubles action on their way to a sweep.
Bryce Bigelow (Kenosha, Wis./Tremper) and
Madalyn Bigelow (Kenosha, Wis./Tremper) were first to finish at No. 3, posting an 8-2 triumph to put UW-W on the board.
Courtney Day (Oshkosh, Wis./North) and
Olivia Kraft (Bloomington, Ill./Normal Community) followed suit with a win by the same margin at No. 2, and the No. 1 pair of
Molly Rueth (Wheaton, Ill./Glenbard West) and
Kasey Schlicht (Pewaukee, Wis./Pewaukee) earned an 8-3 victory to give the Warhawks a 3-0 lead.
Jessica Minkov (Schiller Park, Ill./East Leyden) surrendered only one game at the third singles position in a 6-1, 6-0 win, and
Sabrina Palavra (Skokie, Ill./Niles North) clinched the dual with a 6-2, 6-1 triumph at the second position.

Paige Nierman (Hawthorn Woods, Ill./Stevenson) at No. 1,
Kellie Ha (Palatine, Ill./Fremd) at No. 4 and
Bethany Marshall (Cary, Ill./Cary-Grove) at No. 5.
UW-Whitewater returns to action Friday against Gustavus Adolphus (Minn.). First serve is slated for 2 p.m. at Winona Tennis Center in Winona, Minn.
