The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's and women's track and field teams continued Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference dual action Friday night with a meet against UW-Platteville at Kachel Fieldhouse.
The Warhawk men and women each won five events at the dual, which was not scored for team points.
David Fassbender (Slinger, Wis./Slinger) led the men with a career-best time of 4:13.67 in the 1-mile run, good for first place and the No. 6 mark in NCAA Division III.
Other event winners included
Marlon Cystrunk (DeForest, Wis./DeForest) in the 60-meter hurdles (8.57),
Josh Krystosek (Palmyra, Wis./Palmyra-Eagle) in the high jump (6-05.50 / 1.97 meters) and
Daustin Martin (Jefferson, Wis./Jefferson) in both the shot put (46-06.25 / 14.18 meters) and the weight throw (57-11.25 / 17.66 meters).
A trio of triple jumpers entered the top 10 in the nation with personal record performances –
Curtis Pfeil (West Bend, Wis./West), who placed second with a 47-00.75 (14.34 meters),
Brayden Zettle (Monroe, Wis./Monroe), who finished fourth with a 46-06.00 (14.17 meters), and Shelvin Garrett, who placed fifth with his 46-02.00 (14.07 meters).
On the women's side,
Paige Fassbender (Slinger, Wis./Slinger),
Kylie Jacobs (Watertown, Wis./Watertown),
Sarah Niehueser (Fond du Lac, Wis./Winnebago Lutheran Academy) and
Katie McNamara (Geneva, Ill./Geneva) combined to win the 400-meter dash in a time of 4:08.90, good for 15th nationally after adjustment for track size.
Gracie Holland (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield) and
Shelby Nickels (Manitowoc, Wis./Lincoln), who each rank among the top five nationally in their events, won the pole vault and long jump, respectively. Holland collected a height of 10-10.00 (3.30 meters), and Nickels registered a mark of 18-00.50 (5.50 meters).
Ari De La Cerda (Milwaukee, Wis./Pewaukee) claimed first place in the 1-mile run with her time of 5:28.49, and
Alex Handchetz (Lake in the Hills, Ill./Huntley) crossed the finish line first in the 400-meter dash in 1:05.79.
The Warhawks head to UW-Stevens Point next week Wednesday and Thursday, Feb. 24-25, for the WIAC Multis. They host UW-Platteville next Friday, Feb. 26, at 4 p.m.
