The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's tennis team claimed two doubles matches to earn the doubles point and was competitive at every singles position Saturday in a 6-1 loss against NAIA opponent Cardinal Stritch at Lake Geneva Tennis in Lake Geneva.
The Warhawks (0-1 overall) won two of the three doubles matches to earn the doubles point in the match, which was scored using Division I rules.
Kasey Schlicht (Pewaukee, Wis./Pewaukee) and
Molly Rueth (Wheaton, Ill./Glenbard West) teamed up for a 6-4 triumph at No. 2, and
Courtney Day (Oshkosh, Wis./North) and
Olivia Kraft (Bloomington, Ill./Normal Community) paired for a 7-5 victory at No. 3.
Schlicht, making her Warhawk debut, took the second set at No. 1 singles against CSU's Lisa Keller, but was eventually outlasted in a third-set super tiebreaker.
Rueth and
Jessica Minkov (Schiller Park, Ill./East Leyden) also claimed at least four games in each of their sets at Nos. 5 and 6 singles, respectively.
UW-Whitewater takes on its second straight scholarship school Sunday as it faces Division I Milwaukee at 1 p.m. at Elite Sports Club – River Glen in Milwaukee.
