Balanganayi Selected First Team AFCA All-American

University of Wisconsin-Whitewater football senior Mackenzie Balanganayi (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) was named first team All-America by the American Football Coaches Association following his performance during the 2021 season.
 
Balanganayi, a defensive lineman, is now a two-year All-American. He recently garnered Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year and D3football.com Region 6 Player of the Year accolades for the second straight season.
 
A first team All-WIAC and D3football.com All-Region 6 selection, Balananayi tallied 36 tackles, including 9.0 for a loss and 6.5 sacks, in 12 games played this fall. He added a team-high 12 quarterback hurries.
 
A two-year captain, Balanganayi helped the Warhawks win the program's third straight WIAC championship and 38th in team history. UW-Whitewater finished the 2021 campaign with a 13-1 record after reaching the national semifinals for the 13th time in the last 16 seasons.
 
Balanganayi was a first team 2021 D3football.com Preseason All-American after earning second team D3football.com All-America honors as a junior in 2019.
