The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's soccer team will head to the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Va., this week to compete at the 2021 Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Championship.

The Warhawks (14-5-1 overall), the No. 3 seed in the six-team tournament, will face Finlandia (Mich.), the No. 6 seed, this Thursday in a quarterfinal match starting at 1 p.m. Central Time.

The Lions (6-11) last played on Oct. 20 and have lost three straight matches entering the postseason.

UW-Whitewater and Finlandia last played on Nov. 2, 2019, when UW-W posted a 7-2 victory in the American Collegiate Athletic Association semifinals on its way to the conference championship.

The winner of Thursday's match advances to face No. 2 seeded Mary Washington, the host of the tournament, on Friday, Nov. 5, at 1 p.m. Central Time.

The Warhawks begin the postseason coming off a 4-1 victory against rival UW-Platteville on Oct. 27, the team's third consecutive win.

UW-Whitewater started the year with a 5-0-1 record, including a 3-2 triumph at regionally-ranked Loras (Iowa) and a draw against regionally-ranked St. John's (Minn.).

The Warhawks tallied a 4-3 mark over their next seven matches, including losses at regionally-ranked foes Washington-St. Louis and Luther and a setback at NAIA opponent Viterbo. UW-W played eight straight road matches between Oct. 1-17, suffering four of their five losses during that span.

UW-Whitewater returned home Oct. 22-23 for victories against Augsburg (Minn.) and Augustana (Ill.) before retaining the Shaymus Guinn Cup at UW-Platteville.

Jacob Mouille (Waunakee, Wis./Waunakee), who is in his second year with the program and first year in competition, leads the offense with 20 points on eight goals and four assists entering the postseason.

Seven other Warhawks enter Friday's match with 10 or more points, including Joey Pumo (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha North) and Alec Sykes (Milwaukee, Wis./West Allis Hale) with 13, Tucker Jahns (Elburn, Ill./Kaneland) and Matthew Waters (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard South) with 11, and Jalen Holley (Milwaukee, Wis./Wauwatosa East), Devin Howard (Dublin, Ohio/Jerome) and Steven Wright (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake) with 10 apiece.

Goalkeeper Jake King (McHenry, Ill./McHenry West) enters the tournament with a 10-4-1 record, a .772 save percentage and three shutouts in 16 matches played. Mariano Carini (Whitefish Bay, Wis./Whitefish Bay), Evan Donini (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha West), Will Hamilton (Lake Geneva, Wis./Badger) and Zack Kristy (Burr Ridge, Ill./Lyons Township) have been critical to the defense in 2021.

UW-Whitewater earned the No. 3 seed based on Massey Rating, a methodology for ranking and rating teams designed to measure past performance and to account for the variability in performance and strength of schedule.

The Warhawks joined the ACAA as an affiliate member prior to the 2019 season. The conference was absorbed by the Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) the following spring, and the CAC rebranded to the C2C prior to the 2021 season.

The C2C Men's Soccer championship match is set for Saturday, Nov. 6, at 12 p.m. Central Time.
