The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed inside the Williams Center Pool for the final time in the calendar year Saturday as they hosted UW-Stevens Point for a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference dual.
The Warhawk men scored 72 points, while the women tallied 61 points in losses against the Pointers.
Hunter Hayberger (Sandusky, Ohio/Sandusky) led the men with a first-place finish and two runner-ups. He took the 500-yard freestyle in 5:01.95, placed second in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:48.81 and tied for second with teammate
Anthony Mrozowski (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) in the 100-yard freestyle with his time of 51.02 seconds.
Jalen Stimes (Roscoe, Ill./Hononegah),
Tyler Popke (Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie),
Donny Gramer (Sycamore, Ill./Sycamore),
Joe Wenszell (Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Virtual Learning) and
Dan Emary (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) also finished second in individual events. Stimes finished as runner-up in the 100-yard backstroke (59.08), while Wenszell placed second in the 200-yard butterfly (2:08.41).
Popke and Gramer finished second in the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke events, respectively. Popke touched the wall in 1:01.13 in the 100, and Gramer tallied a result of 2:21.29 in the 200.
Emary placed second in the 400-yard individual medley with his time of 4:53.39.
For the women,
Anna Yeazel (Whitewater, Wis./Whitewater) posted strong performances in the breaststroke events, winning the 100 in 1:12.19 and placing second in the 200 with a 2:37.46.
Gianna Gnewuch (Madison, Wis./Verona Area) placed second in the 100- and 200-yard backstroke, posting a 1:02.85 in the 100 and a 2:15.13 in the 200.
Abby Thompson (De Pere, Wis./De Pere) finished second in both the 200-yard butterfly and the 400-yard individual medley. She recorded a 2:25.47 in the 200 fly and a 5:08.68 in the 400 IM.
UW-Whitewater concludes the calendar year with the Wheaton (Ill.) Invitational on Dec. 3-4.
