Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Boyd’s Late Goal Sends Women’s Soccer to WIAC Win

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's soccer team maintained a strong offensive attack through the entire match Wednesday night and broke through late for a 1-0 victory in extra time at regionally-ranked UW-Platteville in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match.

After more than 103 minutes of scoreless soccer, Anna Boyd (De Pere, Wis./De Pere) netted the game-winning goal in the 104th minute, her second of the season and 11th game-winner of her career.

The Warhawks (9-3 overall, 2-0 WIAC) held a 20-7 advantage in shots for the match, including an 8-3 edge in shots on goal. The two teams each finished with six corner kicks.

Anna Brodjian (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) paced the offense with four shots, including two on goal. Boyd, Olivia May (Elkhorn, Wis./Elkhorn Area) and Megan Howard (Lakeland, Minn./Stillwater Area) attempted three shots apiece, and Ally Bosetti (Beloit, Wis./Beloit Turner) and Katie Swenson (Wauwatosa, Wis./East) each tried two.

Goalkeeper Leah Eisenbarth (Lake Barrington, Ill./Barrington) went the distance, totaling three saves in her second solo shutout of the season.

UW-Platteville (6-2-2, 0-2) earned the first corner kick of the contest and attempted the first shot. After that, UW-Whitewater applied pressure to the Pioneers' defensive third as Bosetti took the first shot on goal in the 16th minute.

Eisenbarth kept UW-P off the board with saves in the 28th and 34th minutes. UW-W was awarded a penalty kick just before the half, but the attempt was saved.

The Warhawks continued to put heavy pressure on the Pioneers at the start of the second half, tallying two corners and three shots over the first 10 minutes, including a shot by May that hit the crossbar and a shot on goal by Bosetti.

UW-Whitewater continued its attack, but its final shot in regulation, a header by Carli Nehls (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) in the 86th minute, was saved.

The Warhawks posted three shots, including two on goal, and one corner kick in the first overtime but came up empty on the scoreboard.

Boyd found the back of the net two minutes after the Pioneers attempted the first shot of the second overtime.

UW-Whitewater hosts UW-Stevens Point this Saturday starting at 6 p.m. at Fiskum Field.
