Final Statistics

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's basketball team took on Division I Wisconsin for the second time in program history Friday night and was defeated 76-50 in an exhibition game at the Kohl Center in Madison.

Derek Gray (Madison, Wis./La Follette) posted a team-best 17 points, all in the first half, to lead the Warhawks. The sophomore guard added three rebounds and two steals in an impressive 32 minutes of action.

Trevon Chislom (McFarland, Wis./McFarland) posted nine points and three rebounds, while Elijah Lambert (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine's) tallied seven points and a team-high eight rebounds, including four on the offensive end. Jameer Barker (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine's) posted seven points, five rebounds and two assists in 22 minutes off the bench.

UW-Whitewater held the Badgers to 35.3 percent shooting in the second half and 43.8 percent for the game, and forced 17 turnovers. The Warhawks were limited to 30.8 percent shooting in the contest and were out-rebounded 51-37 against the length and size of UW.

The Warhawks held a 4-3 advantage 90 seconds into the contest on a layup by Gray and a runner by Chislom. The Badgers scored the next 12 points before Chislom knocked down a 3-pointer at the 11:50 mark to bring UW-W within eight.

Wisconsin maintained its double-digit lead despite the performance of Gray, who recorded 15 of UW-Whitewater's first 21 points, bringing the team to within 11 with 3:59 left in the half.

The Badgers ended the half on a 16-6 run and led 47-27 through 20 minutes of action.

Lambert and Gage Malensek (Brookfield, Wis./Central) registered the first two buckets of the second half to draw UW-W to within 16 at the 18:19 mark. Wisconsin's lead hovered between 16-20 points before swelling to 24 with 13:10 on the clock.

The Badgers continued to build on their lead, which reached 34 points with 4:09 remaining. Barker cut into the deficit with five straight points, including a 3-pointer with just over two minutes to play.

Jack Brahm (Bayside, Wis./Glendale Nicolet) scored the last four points of the game, both in transition, to account for the final margin.

The Warhawks begin the regular season next Friday, Nov. 5, at Monmouth (Ill.). Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m.

Friday's exhibition game benefitted Garding Against Cancer, a non-profit started by UW head coach Greg Gard which has raised more than $5 million for cancer research and patient care. Six local health organizations recently received a combined $120,000 thanks to a benefit held in Janesville in partnership between UW and UW-Whitewater.

Prior to the game, the family of former Warhawk Lucas Burns was recognized by Gard and UW-W head coach Pat Miller. Burns, a member of the 2012 national championship team and dedicated supporter of Warhawk Athletics, passed away last year at the age of 30 after a battle against brain cancer.
