The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's soccer team closed the non-conference portion of the regular season schedule Tuesday night with a 1-0 victory against Augustana (Ill.) at Fiskum Field.
The Warhawks (13-5 overall), who also played their final home match of the regular season, recorded their 10th shutout of the season and fourth in the last five matches.
Katy Kusswurm (South Elgin, Ill./St. Charles North) registered the game-winning goal in the 14th minute on an assist from
Anna Brodjian (Barrington, Ill./Barrington). It was Kusswurm's first goal of the year and fifth of her career.
UW-Whitewater attempted three shots in the first 12 minutes before Kusswurm found the back of the net. UW-W limited the Vikings (8-7) to two shots in the first half, including none on goal.
The Warhawks sustained their offensive aggressiveness early in the second half with three shots and one corner kick over the first seven minutes.
Augustana didn't attempt a shot on goal until the 79th minute, and goalkeeper
Lilly Horne (Sycamore, Ill./Sycamore), who improved to 4-1 on the year, made the save to keep the Vikings off the board.
Olivia May (Elkhorn, Wis./Elkhorn Area) put a shot on goal in the 84th minute, the last one of the contest.
UW-Whitewater didn't allow a corner kick and finished with seven on the other end.
Megan Howard (Lakeland, Minn./Stillwater Area) attempted a team-high four shots, including one on goal, and May tallied two shots, both on goal.
The Warhawks wrap up the regular season this Saturday at UW-La Crosse. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.
