Women’s Soccer Tops UW-Stout

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's soccer team parlayed a strong second-half performance Saturday into a 1-0 victory against UW-Stout in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest at Fiskum Field.

The Warhawks (12-5 overall, 4-2 WIAC) finished with a 12-2 shot advantage in the second half and found their game-winning goal near the midway point of the period after a scoreless opening half.

Goalkeeper Lilly Horne (Sycamore, Ill./Sycamore) totaled two saves in the team's ninth shutout of the season.

UW-Whitewater attempted eight first-half corner kicks, including three in the first 15-plus minutes of action, to keep pressure on the defense of the Blue Devils (10-7-1, 2-4).

Olivia May (Elkhorn, Wis./Elkhorn Area) put the first shot on goal of the contest in the 22nd minute, but it was turned back by the UW-Stout keeper. Elizabeth Klein (Burlington, Wis./Catholic Central) also put a shot on frame in the 31st minute.

Anna Brodjian (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) put two shots on goal before her third one found the back of the net in the 66th minute for her team-leading 12th goal of the year. Klein earned the assist on the play.

Horne made each of her two saves over the next 10 minutes of action to preserve the UW-W shutout.

The Warhawks' defense didn't allow a UW-Stout shot over the final 15 minutes of the contest.

As part of the WIAC"s "Playing for a Cause" initiative, funds were collected at the contest on behalf of epilepsy awareness and research.

UW-Whitewater hosts Augustana (Ill.) Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Fiskum Field for its final home match of the regular season.
