The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's soccer team played its first match at Fiskum Field since late September Friday afternoon, tallying two first half goals on the way to a 3-1 victory against Augsburg (Minn.).
The Warhawks (12-5-1 overall) found the back of the net twice in a two-minute span late in the first half to take control of the match.
Goalkeeper
Jake King (McHenry, Ill./McHenry West) recorded nine saves to lead the defense.
Each of UW-Whitewater's first two goals came from a substitute late in the first half.
Will Morgan (Naperville, Ill./Central) started the scoring in the 39th minute, taking a pass from
Matthew Waters (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard South) for his first goal of the year.
Faizan Mohiuddin (South Elgin, Ill./St. Charles North) tallied the team's second goal in the 41st minute, his second of the season and the game-winner, to double the UW-W lead.
The Auggies (12-4) put two shots on goal in the first 12 minutes of the second half. The Warhawks earned a corner kick in the 61st minute and, 25 seconds later,
Zack Kristy (Burr Ridge, Ill./Lyons Township) scored his first goal of the year on an assist from
Jacob Mouille (Waunakee, Wis./Waunakee) to make it 3-0.
Augsburg responded three minutes later with its first goal of the contest to cut its deficit back to two goals.
From there, King and the UW-Whitewater defense allowed only three shots, none on goal.
