Women’s Soccer Earns WIAC Road Win

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's soccer team found an early goal Saturday and maintained the lead in a 1-0 victory at UW-Eau Claire in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match.

With the win, the Warhawks (11-4 overall, 3-1 WIAC) improved to 7-1 in true road games and stayed three points out of first place in the conference standings.

Both teams put shots on target in the first two minutes of the contest, and both were saved. Elizabeth Klein (Burlington, Wis./Catholic Central) put the next shot into the back of the net, taking a pass from Olivia May (Elkhorn, Wis./Elkhorn Area) in the 14th minute for her third goal of the year.

The two teams played evenly throughout the rest of the first half. The Blugolds (6-7-2, 1-3) put a shot on goal in the waning moments of the first half, but Lilly Horne (Sycamore, Ill./Sycamore) made her sixth save of the period to maintain the UW-W lead into halftime.

UW-Whitewater and UW-Eau Claire traded shots in the second half. The Blugolds drew a penalty kick in the 78th minute, but Horne was up to the task, making the save to keep the shutout alive.

Horne, who finished with 11 saves in the match, tallied her final save in the 79th minute to keep UW-Eau Claire off the board for the Warhawks' fifth shutout in their last six results.

UW-Whitewater hosts UW-Oshkosh Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Fiskum Field.
