Five members of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's and women's tennis teams completed play Thursday and Friday at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Cup in Rome, Ga.
 
All-American John Zakowski (Green Bay, Wis./Southwest), the ITA Midwest Regional singles champion, topped Luke Lemaitre of George Fox 6-4, 6-3 in the West quarterfinals before falling in the semifinals against Johns Hopkins. He finished the weekend with a 1-2 mark.
 
Cole Lindwall (Cottage Grove, Wis./Monona Grove), the regional singles runner-up, was ousted in the South semifinals by a 6-4, 6-1 score against Ethan Carroll of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.
 
Zakowski also competed in doubles with fellow All-American Alex Gray (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville). The Midwest Region champion duo was edged in a second-set tiebreaker in the West quarterfinals before bowing out of the tournament in the South semifinals.
 
Midwest Regional women's doubles champions Autumn Bruno (Milwaukee, Wis./Greenfield Whitnall) and Cassie Lee (Downers Grove, Ill./Timothy Christian) represented the Warhawk women in Georgia. The All-American freshmen were defeated in the South semifinals by The College of New Jersey.
 
Qualifiers for the national tournament included regional champions and runners-up in addition to wild cards replacing qualifiers who were unable to compete.
 
The UW-Whitewater women continue action Saturday with a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference dual against UW-Stout. First serve is slated for 12 p.m. at the Warhawk Outdoor Tennis Complex.
 
The men's fall season has concluded. The Warhawks return to the courts Feb. 5 with duals against Cardinal Stritch and Illinois Tech at Lake Geneva Tennis.
