The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's soccer team recorded its second consecutive road shutout Tuesday, topping Beloit 2-0 in its sixth straight match away from home.
The Warhawks (11-3-1 overall), who are now 9-3 in true road games this season, controlled possession for a majority of the contest, holding advantages in shots (29-5) and corner kicks (15-2).
Jonathan Fenton (Menomonie, Wis./Menomonie) posted the shutout in goal with three saves over 90 minutes of action.
Evan Donini (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha West) registered the game-winning goal in the ninth minute on assists from
Andres Villarreal (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine's) and
Devin Howard (Dublin, Ohio/Jerome).
The Buccaneers (3-7-1) found their first shot on goal in the 19th minute, but Fenton made the save to hold the UW-W lead.
UW-Whitewater maintained consistent pressure on the Beloit defense over the final 25 minutes of the half, but its 1-0 lead held at halftime.
Fenton kept the Buccaneers off the board with another save in the 60th minute. Twenty minutes later, Howard doubled the Warhawks' lead on an assist from
Nolan Ehlers (Grayslake, Ill./Warren Township).
Beloit attempted three shots over the final 10 minutes, but Fenton and the UW-W defense held firm for the team's fifth shutout of the year.
UW-Whitewater visits UW-Eau Claire Saturday for a 1 p.m. contest. The match will be the first ever between the two teams.
