Warhawks Behind The Scenes Presented by Whitewater Family Dentistry – Steve Hillmer

Starting in January 2021, the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Department of Intercollegiate Athletics will recognize one member of the department's administrative and support staff each week for its "Warhawks Behind The Scenes" series presented by Whitewater Family Dentistry. Our administrators and support staff work tirelessly behind the scenes to support the efforts of UW-Whitewater coaches and student-athletes in competition, in the classroom and in the community. Without their efforts, none of our success would be possible.

What do you enjoy most about working with our student-athletes and coaches?
I enjoy that each day is different. I enjoy working with our coaching staffs because of their passion and desire to get better each day. Watching our student-athletes grow during their time as young adults and find their way to success int eh classroom and within athletics is rewarding.

What makes UW-Whitewater a great place to work?
The facilities are exceptional and our tradition of success is awesome, but what separates UW-W from other places is the people. The support of the Whitewater community and the support from our entire campus is unmatched. Within athletics specifically, the ability to work with individuals who are passionate about their jobs and always looking to get better is motivating for me to match their passion and desire to get better daily.

What we're saying about Steve Hillmer:
"Steve's role is essential to the health and well-being of our student-athletes, especially at a time with a lot of uncertainty in the midst of a global pandemic. His leadership during this time – and throughout his two-plus decades at UW-Whitewater – has been critical. Steve's work is well-respected on campus and around the country, as he serves on numerous committees dedicated to the improvement of the lives of student-athletes. He is a valuable member of our administrative team and we are lucky to have him on our campus."  – Ryan Callahan, Interim Director of Athletics

"Steve is an instrumental member of our staff and a large part of our program's many successes over the last few years. Steve's dedication and commitment to all the athletic programs at UW-W is unprecedented. In addition to providing quality care and treatment for the student-athletes to maximize their potential on the playing field, Steve goes out of his way to build relationships and connect personally with each student-athlete to help them achieve excellence on the field and in the classroom. Steve's positivity, caring attitude, attention to detail, confidence and pride provide comfort each time Warhawk Women's Soccer steps on the field." - Ryan Quamme, Head Women's Soccer Coach
