The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater continued its run of dual matches at Lake Geneva Tennis Saturday afternoon with an 8-1 victory over Carthage.
The Warhawks (7-1 overall), who have not lost since a spring season-opening defeat against NAIA No. 3 Cardinal Stritch, dropped a combined seven games in doubles among the three spots to take a 3-0 match lead.
Sophomores
Noah Guillermo (Muskego, Wis./Marquette University HS) and
Ryan Mitchell (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) put the team on the board with an 8-1 triumph at the third position. Senior
Rory Calabria (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) and sophomore
Alex Gray (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) followed suit with an 8-2 win at No. 1, and senior
Zach Wood (Downers Grove, Ill./South) and freshman
Danila Borovykh (Ryazan, Russia/Boca Prep International School (Fla.)) tallied an 8-4 victory at No. 2.
Mitchell posted the first singles win by a 6-1, 6-1 count at the No. 3 position. Freshman
Cole Lindwall (Cottage Grove, Wis./Monona Grove) clinched the match for the Warhawks with a 6-3, 6-3 triumph at No. 4. Calabria was next on the board with a 6-3, 6-2 victory at No. 2, and Gray added a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 1.
Sophomore
Brendan Pietila (Sussex, Wis./Arrowhead) capped UW-W's scoring with a 6-7 (3), 6-4, 1-0 (10-3) triumph at No. 5.
UW-Whitewater continues dual action Sunday against Wabash (Ind.). First serve is slated for 10 a.m. at Lake Geneva Tennis.
