The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's tennis team continued its strong play during the spring season Friday with two more dual wins on the first day of the two-day Warhawk Invite at Lake Geneva Tennis.
The Warhawks (5-1 overall) swept Wheaton (Ill.) 9-0 to start the day before defeating Grinnell (Iowa) by a 6-3 score to cap the day.
Against Wheaton (1-1), UW-Whitewater posted three convincing wins at doubles to start with a 3-0 lead. Sophomore

Danila Borovykh (Ryazan, Russia/Boca Prep International School (Fla.)) bested Andrew Bristol and Nathan Fruh 8-5 at No. 1 doubles. Seniors
Rory Calabria (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) and
Zach Wood (Downers Grove, Ill./South) topped Jeremiah Yi and Anderson Parker by an 8-5 count at the second position, and junior
Robert Rider (Annapolis, Md./South River) and sophomore
Noah Guillermo (Muskego, Wis./Marquette University HS) teamed up for an 8-3 victory at No. 3.
Freshman
Cole Lindwall (Cottage Grove, Wis./Monona Grove) put the Warhawks on the board in singles action first with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep at No. 5. Borovykh clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-1 triumph at No. 4.
Calabria was next on the board with a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 2, and sophomore
Ryan Mitchell (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) built the advantage to 7-0 with a 6-4, 7-5 victory at No. 3. Gray collected a 6-4, 6-4 triumph at No. 1, and sophomore
Brendan Pietila (Sussex, Wis./Arrowhead) posted a 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 6 to finish the shutout.
In the match against Grinnell (3-1), UW-Whitewater dropped two of three matches in doubles and trailed 2-1 heading into singles competition. Gray and Borovykh were the lone winners by an 8-6 score at the first position.
Mitchell was first to finish in singles with a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 3. Borovykh and Pietila gave the Warhawks a 4-2 lead thanks to straight-set wins at Nos. 2 and 5, respectively.
LIndwall clinched the match with a 6-3, 2-6, 1-0 (10-3) triumph at No. 4. Calabria also recovered from a second set loss at No. 1 for a 6-2, 2-6, 1-0 (10-3) victory at No. 1.
UW-Whitewater finishes Warhawk Invite action Saturday against Luther (Iowa) at 3:30 p.m.
