Track and Field Posts Strong Marks at Karl Schlender Invite

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's and women's track and field teams started the 2020 season Saturday with the annual Karl Schlender Invitational at Kachel Fieldhouse.
 
The Warhawk men won 13 events, while the women claimed nine.
 
On the men's side, junior Daustin Martin (Jefferson, Wis./Jefferson) swept the throwing events. He posted a 47-11.75 (14.62 meters) in the shot put and a career-best 57-05.75 (17.52 meters) in the weight throw, which currently ranks among the top 10 in the nation.
 
Seniors Zach Jasinski (Sussex, Wis./Hamilton) and Adam Schommer (Freedom, Wis./Freedom) each started the season with top-10 national heights on pole vault. The duo tied for first with matching marks of 15-06.25 (4.73 meters).
 
Junior Dwayne Ford (Racine, Wis./Case) won the 60-meter dash with his time of 6.95, which is currently among Division III's top 10. Junior Thomas Kelly (Brown Deer, Wis./Brown Deer) started his 2020 season with a strong showing in long jump, tallying a personal-record 23-02.75 (7.08 meters), good for a top-10 national debut.
 
UW-Whitewater's distance medley relay team of freshmen Justin Krause (Ixonia, Wis./Pewaukee), Sam Uhrich (Beaver Dam, Wis./Beaver Dam), Jared Weiler (Green Bay, Wis./Preble) and junior Kyle Neuroth (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) started the year with a 10:45.32, a top-10 national time. Krause also finished first in the 800-meter run with a 2:02.41.
 
On the women's side, sophomores Kailey Reynolds (Whitewater, Wis./Whitewater) and Sydney Rossow (West Bend, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) won the 60- and 200-meter dash events, respectively. Reynolds crossed the finish line in a career-best 7.94 seconds in the 60, while Rossow registered a 26.87 in the 200.
 
Freshman Paige Fassbender (Slinger, Wis./Slinger) won the 600-meter run in her track and field debut, finishing her race in 1:43.42. Junior Jessie Braun (Wales, Wis./Kettle Moraine) claimed the 800-meter run in 2:32.01.
 
Senior Madi McDonald (Brookfield, Wis./East) and junior Sydney Davidson (Elburn, Ill./Kaneland) tied for first in pole vault with a 11-03.00 (3.43 meters). Other individual event winners included junior Shelby Nickels (Manitowoc, Wis./Lincoln) and freshman Miranda Reynolds (Whitewater, Wis./Whitewater). Nickels took the long jump with her 18-00.25 (5.49 meters), which currently ranks among the top 10 in NCAA Division III. Reynolds posted a strong collegiate debut in the high jump, clearing a height of 5-03.25 (1.61 meters).
 
The Warhawks host the annual "Squig" Converse Invitational Friday, Jan. 31, at 5 p.m. (men) and the Warhawk Classic Invitational Saturday, Feb. 1, starting at 12 p.m.
