Women's Soccer Wins Home Opener

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's soccer team defeated the Milwaukee School of Engineering in its home opener by a score of 4-1 at Fiskum Field.

The Warhawks move to 2-1 in their season while the Raiders drop to 0-2-1.

Junior forward Anna Brodjian (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) recorded two goals in the first six minutes of Wednesday's match-up. In the fourth minute, junior Madisyn Smith (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Catholic) crossed the goal, reaching Brodjian who was able to score via a header into the top right of the goal.

Brodjian's second goal came after a perfect pass from junior Anna Boyd (De Pere, Wis./De Pere), across the net, as Brodjian was able to kick it to the back of the net.

UW-W remained dominant in the first half, scoring a third goal in the 22nd minute. This goal came after Boyd recorded a shot on goal, but when the keeper deflected it, freshman Olivia May (Elkhorn, Wis./Elkhorn Area) was able to put it right into the net.

In the second half, the Warhawks continued to keep the ball on the Raiders' side of the field. Boyd scored the fourth and final goal in the 57th minute of the game.

The Raiders would not let UW-W shut them out, as they were able to score their lone goal in the 80th minute of the game. The final score of the game would be 4-1, with UW-Whitewater on top for their second win of the season.

UW-Whitewater will be back in action on Saturday at Fiskum Field for Senior Day. They face North Central at 5 p.m., when the team will recognize Sara Klimisch (Pleasant Prairie, Wis./Indian Trail High School and Academy), Emily Mouille (Waunakee, Wis./Waunakee), Elli Wahlberg (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North) and Nina Yonan (Skokie, Ill./Niles North) for their career accomplishments.
