Joey Pumo (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha North), Junior, Forward
Pumo equaled his goal output from 2018 in the Warhawks' season-opening 4-0 triumph over Westminster (Mo.) on Sunday at Badger High School in Lake Geneva. He recorded two goals during a three-minute span in the first half, finding the back of the net in the 16th minute that held up as the game-winner. Pumo added another tally in the 18th minute, rebounding his own shot and putting it past the keeper to double the UW-Whitewater advantage.?

Offense
Anna Boyd (De Pere, Wis./De Pere), Junior (De Pere, Wis.), Midfielder of UW-Whitewater
Boyd tallied seven points (two goals, three assists) in two matches over the weekend and was named to the BSN SPORTS Labor Day Challenge All-Tournament Team as the Warhawks started the 2019 season with back-to-back games in Minnesota. In Friday's season-opener at St. Benedict, Boyd registered UW-W's first goal of the year unassisted in the 57th minute and assisted on the team's match-tying goal in the 72nd. One day later, she assisted on the team's first two goals and added one of her own in the 53rd minute to help the Warhawks to a 4-1 win at St. Scholastica. Boyd put three of her six shots on goal over the weekend. |

Defense
Katy Kusswurm (South Elgin, Ill./St. Charles North), Junior, Defender
Kusswurm started two matches and played 117 minutes over the weekend to help the Warhawks finish with a 1-1 record against competition in Minnesota. She helped UW-Whitewater hold opponents to only one first-half goal for the weekend and limit them to only four corner kick opportunities. Kusswurm played 83 minutes of a possible 91 minutes in Friday's season opener at St. Benedict, a 3-2 overtime loss, then helped the Warhawks hold St. Scholastica to only one goal in a 4-1 victory on Saturday in Duluth.

Singles
Jessica Minkov (Schiller Park, Ill./East Leyden), Sophomore
Minkov fought through a shoulder injury and didn't drop a set on her way to the No. 2 singles title at the Warhawk Invitational on Saturday, helping the Warhawks win the eight-team tournament at Wangerin Courts. The second seed in the draw, she downed UW-Oshkosh and Augustana (Ill.) on her way to the final, where she bested Sophia De Los Reyes of Grinnell (Iowa) by a 6-4, 6-2 score. Â

Sabrina Palavra (Skokie, Ill./Niles North), Junior, and Olivia Kraft (Bloomington, Ill./Normal Community), Sophomore
Palavra and Kraft teamed up to win the championship in the No. 2 doubles flight at the Warhawk Invitational, helping the team win the eight-team tournament on Saturday at Wangerin Courts. The duo lost a combined eight games in three matches on its way to first place, including a 6-0, 6-2 triumph in the final against UW-Eau Claire. Palavra and Kraft also bested Carthage and UW-Oshkosh on their way to the title. |

Offense
Morgan Wardall (Merrill, Wis./Merrill), Sophomore, Middle Hitter
Wardall was named to the All-Tournament Team over the weekend at the UW-Whitewater Invitational after totaling 22 kills (2.44 per set) on a team-high .381 hitting percentage while adding one service ace, three digs and seven blocks (0.78 per set). Her performance helped the No. 16 Warhawks finish with a 3-0 record at the tournament. Wardall posted nine kills in UW-W's season-opening 3-0 triumph over MSOE, then collected nine kills on a .533 hitting percentage to go along with one service ace in a 3-0 win over Lakeland. On Saturday, she registered four kills and two blocks in the team's three-set victory over Carleton (Minn.).

Ashton Doll (Lancaster, Wis./Lancaster), Senior, Middle Hitter
Doll totaled 10 blocks (1.11 per set) to help the Warhawks hold three straight opponents to a hitting percentage under .100 over the weekend at the UW-Whitewater Invitational. She was selected to the All-Tournament Team following her dominating defensive performance. Doll tallied three blocks to go along with five kills in the team's season-opening win over MSOE on Friday, and posted four blocks in addition to nine kills later that day in a 3-0 victory over Lakeland. On Saturday, Doll contributed three more blocks and added three kills in a three-set triumph over Carleton (Minn.). |
