The No. 13 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater volleyball team picked up a pair of victories Saturday in a triangular at Elmhurst (Ill.).
The Warhawks (12-3 overall) downed Dominican (Ill.) 25-21, 25-22, 25-19 before finishing the day with a 20-25, 25-15, 25-22, 25-17 triumph over Elmhurst.
In the match against Dominican (11-4), UW-Whitewater hit a .237 and doubled up the Stars in blocks, 6-3.
Sophomore outside hitter
Emma Aske (Aurora, Ill./Metea Valley) tallied a team-high 12 kills to go along with five digs, and freshman outside hitter
Chloe Buescher (Janesville, Wis./Milton) posted 10 kills, six digs and four blocks.
Sophomore outside hitter
Erin McNeil (Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge) hit .385 on her way to six kills, while sophomore middle hitter
Morgan Wardall (Merrill, Wis./Merrill) collected four kills, five digs, one service ace and a team-best five blocks. Sophomore setter
KellyAnn Sotiros (New Berlin, Wis./West Allis Hale) registered 13 assists and seven digs, and sophomore setter
Paige Manssen (Bull Valley, Ill./McHenry West) finished with nine assists, three digs and one service ace.
Freshman defensive specialist
Morgan Jensen (Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie) totaled a team-high 12 digs to go with two service aces, and sophomore defensive specialist
Hailey Mackenthun (Webster, Minn./Northfield) led the team with four service aces and added five digs.
The Warhawks jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the first set and held on despite a late Dominican rally to take a 1-0 lead. In the second, the Stars led 14-7 before UW-Whitewater made two separate runs – the first on Mackenthun's serve and the second on Jensen's – to take a 20-18 lead.
The Warhawks scored the last three points of the second set to take a 2-0 advantage.
UW-Whitewater jumped to a 6-2 lead in the second, but Dominican rallied for a 10-9 lead. The Warhawks ran off seven of the last 10 points in the set, including each of the last four, to take the match.
Against Elmhurst (6-11), UW-Whitewater overcame a slow start to defeat the host Bluejays.
Aske posted a career-high 17 kills and added 11 digs for a double-double. Buescher registered 11 kills and 10 digs for a double-double, and senior middle hitter
Ashton Doll (Lancaster, Wis./Lancaster) totaled 10 kills and four blocks.
Wardall notched seven kills, seven digs and four blocks. Senior outside hitter
Rachel Butterfield (Milton, Wis./Milton) hit .304 on her way to eight kills. Sotiros finished with 22 assists and 14 digs for a double-double, and freshman
Maggie Streckert (Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove) contributed 25 assists, three digs and three blocks.
Jensen led the defense with 30 digs to go along with five assists, and Mackenthun added 15 digs from the back row.
The Warhawks visit Edgewood Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Madison.
