No. 10 Volleyball Earns Non-Conference Win

The No. 10 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater volleyball team extended its win streak to seven straight matches Tuesday night with a 25-18, 17-25, 25-23, 25-18 triumph at Edgewood in a non-conference contest in Madison, Wis.
 
Sophomore outside hitter Erin McNeil (Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge) tallied 12 kills to lead the Warhawks (13-3 overall), who turned the match by taking five of the last six points in the third set to turn a 22-20 deficit into a 25-23 set victory.
 
Edgewood (4-12) took the lead at 11-10 in the fourth set before UW-Whitewater took six of the next seven points to take control of the match. The Eagles got as close as 19-17, but the Warhawks finished the match by scoring six of the final seven points.
 
Freshman outside hitter Chloe Buescher (Janesville, Wis./Milton) posted 10 kills to go along with six digs. Senior outside hitter Rachel Butterfield (Milton, Wis./Milton) collected eight kills and five digs, and senior middle hitter Ashton Doll (Lancaster, Wis./Lancaster) registered seven kills, four blocks and three digs.
 
Sophomore setter KellyAnn Sotiros (New Berlin, Wis./West Allis Hale) finished with 21 assists, five service aces and seven digs. Freshman setter Maggie Streckert (Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove) totaled 17 assists and two kills.
 
Freshman defensive specialist Morgan Jensen (Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie) led the back row with 25 digs to go along with three assists and two service aces. Sophomore defensive specialist Hailey Mackenthun (Webster, Minn./Northfield) recorded 14 digs, and sophomore outside hitter Emma Aske (Aurora, Ill./Metea Valley) contributed 11 digs.
 
UW-Whitewater jumped out to a 5-2 advantage in the first set before Edgewood took leads of 10-8 and 11-9. The Warhawks scored six of the next seven points before the Eagles rallied again to within one point. UW-Whitewater finished the set on a 6-1 run to take a 1-0 match lead.
 
Edgewood never trailed in the second set, leading by as many as 10 points. The two teams went back and forth in the third set before the Warhawks took control.
 
UW-Whitewater visits UW-Stout this Friday at 7 p.m. in Menomonie, Wis.
