The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's soccer team defeated Luther College with a score of 2-1 in Wednesday night's matchup in Decorah, Iowa.
Â
The Warhawks move to 4-4-2 as the Norse drop to 2-4-1.
Â
In the first half, defense was the name of the game as UW-W was limited to two shots, while Luther was limited to one shot. Neither team was able to record any shots on goal and the first half ended with a 0-0 score.
Â
UW-W came out attacking in the second half, tallying five shots in the first 10 minutes. The first goal of the game came after
Anna Boyd (De Pere, Wis./De Pere) was able to cross the ball into the box and
Anna Brodjian (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) was able to send it to the lower left corner in the 61st minute.
Â
Luther fired back in the 67th minute, scoring a goal off of a rebound to tie the game at 1-1.
Â
The Warhawks worked hard to respond, recording five shots, including three on goal, from the 77th until the 84th minute.
Â
After a cross from
Ally Bosetti (Beloit, Wis./Beloit Turner) in the 87th minute,
Savannah Curtis (Lodi, Wis./Lodi) passed to
Elli Wahlberg (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North), who scored the game winning goal. The game ended at that margin and gave the Warhawks their second road win of the season.
Â
UW-Whitewater will travel to Mequon, Wis., to play Concordia Wisconsin on Sunday at 1 p.m.
