The No. 13 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater volleyball team remained unbeaten in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play Wednesday night with a 25-22, 25-20, 15-25, 18-25, 15-11 triumph at UW-La Crosse.
The Warhawks (10-3 overall, 2-0 WIAC) claimed their fourth straight win and first true road victory of the season.
UW-Whitewater hit .249 as a team, including .450 in the fifth set, and edged the Eagles (7-7, 0-2) in blocks (6-4) and service aces (3-2).
Freshman outside hitter
Chloe Buescher (Janesville, Wis./Milton) collected a season-high 20 kills on a .378 hitting percentage and added seven digs and two blocks. Sophomore outside hitter
Emma Aske (Aurora, Ill./Metea Valley) tallied a double-double with 10 kills and 11 digs, and sophomore middle hitter
Morgan Wardall (Merrill, Wis./Merrill) posted nine kills on a .467 hitting percentage to go along with two blocks.
Senior outside hitter
Rachel Butterfield (Milton, Wis./Milton) and senior middle hitter
Ashton Doll (Lancaster, Wis./Lancaster) registered nine kills apiece. Doll added three blocks, while Butterfield finished with two. Sophomore setter
KellyAnn Sotiros (New Berlin, Wis./West Allis Hale) totaled 20 assists and nine digs, and freshman setter
Maggie Streckert (Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove) finished with 21 assists and four digs.
Freshman defensive specialist
Morgan Jensen (Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie) contributed a team-high 15 digs to go with seven assists and two service aces. Sophomore defensive specialist
Hailey Mackenthun (Webster, Minn./Northfield) recorded 11 digs.
In the decisive fifth set, UW-Whitewater jumped out to a 6-3 lead and doubled it to 12-6 before UW-La Crosse scored three straight points to cut its deficit to three.
The Eagles got as close as two, but the Warhawks scored the final two points of the match on kills by Wardall and Doll to pick up the win.
UW-Whitewater heads to Elmhurst, Ill., this Saturday for a triangular against Dominican (Ill.) and Elmhurst. Matches begin at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m., respectively.
