Three Score in Men's Soccer Shutout Victory

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's soccer team shutout Alma College with a score of 3-0 in its home opener on Monday at Fiskum Field.

The Warhawks move to 2-0 in their season while the Scots move to 1-2.

Senior Kevin Mesich (West Allis, Wis./West Allis Hale) scored the first goal of the game, and the first of his season, in the 11th minute. He was assisted by teammates Brad Ludwig (Appleton, Wis./Kimberly) and Andres Villarreal (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine's). The quick action left defenders with little time to react, and the ball was low and inside for the goal.

The next goal came in the 22nd minute from Ludwig. This was his third goal of the season after scoring a pair in Sunday's game. The assists came from Villarreal and Taylor Ortiz (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East), similar to the first goal, with quick and short passes from each other.

UW-W continued to control possession of the game, recording their third and final goal of the day in the 40th minute. The point came from junior Jackson Ranck (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North) with an assist from Steven Wright (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake).

The Warhawks outshot the Scots 18-5 in the match, including 12-3 on goal.

UW-Whitewater will be heading to Chicago on Saturday to play Illinois Tech at 7 p.m.
