Men's Soccer Ties in Double OT

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's soccer team reached its first overtime on Wednesday night against Millikin University. Neither team was able to take advantage of the extra 20 minutes, and the match would end with a 1-1 score.

The Warhawks remain undefeated with an 8-0-1 record while Millikin moves to 3-2-1.

The first half of the game was intense up and down the field, as Millikin recorded eight shots and Whitewater recorded three. Despite the high number, the half would remain scoreless.

Despite the 0-0 score, UW-W was able to strike early as Hozai Ceballos (Janesville, Wis./Janesville Craig) was able to score in the first minute of the second half. The goalkeeper tried to block Joey Pumo's (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha North) cross, and Ceballos was able to put it in over his head.

After a throw in, Millikin was able to make their move in the 63rd minute, tying the game 1-1.

Both teams showed grit and aggression through the rest of regular play, but were unable to capitalize on any of the opportunities.

In overtime play, the Warhawks recorded one shot on goal in the 19th extra minute, but it was not enough to be a game winner. The game would end tied at 1-1.

With Millikin's 17 shots on goal throughout the match, Jake King (McHenry, Ill./McHenry West) was able to record three saves.

UW-Whitewater will host the University of Minnesota-Morris on Saturday for a match at 1 p.m.
