The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's soccer team defeated Edgewood College by a score of 1-0 on Friday night.
Â
UW-W extend their winning streak to 12 matches, including 6-0 in 2019, while the Eagles drop to 1-3-1.
Â
In the first half of the game, both teams recorded numerous shots as the possession went back and forth. Sophomore goalkeeper
Jake King (McHenry, Ill./McHenry West) saved all three shots on goal that the Eagles took in the first 45 minutes. The Warhawks tallied 14 shots, four of which were on goal.
Â
Neither team was able to put the ball into the back of the net and the first half ended tied at 0-0.
Â
The second half was slower and more aggressive, as Edgewood received three yellow cards and had eight fouls and were forced to make multiple substitutions. The Warhawks would use that to their advantage as they were granted multiple free kicks to keep the possession of the Eagles' side of the field.
Â
The lone goal of the game came in the 78th minute. Off of the free kick,
Andres Villarreal (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine's) took a shot on goal, which was then saved but rebounded from the Edgewood goalkeeper.
Hozai Ceballos (Janesville, Wis./Janesville Craig) was able to use the rebound to score in the lower-right corner of the goal.
Â
The game would remain 1-0 off what held up as the game-winning goal. UW-W had a season-high of 21 shots recorded in the contest.
Â
UW-Whitewater will play at Rockford University on Saturday at 7 p.m. On Sunday, they will host Olivet College for a match beginning at 12 p.m. at Fiskum Field.
