The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's tennis team extended its winning streak over Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponents to 97 matches Friday afternoon with a 9-0 triumph over UW-Oshkosh in the season-opener for both teams at Wangerin Courts.
The Warhawks (1-0 overall, 1-0 WIAC) took all three doubles matches comfortably. Sophomores
Olivia Kraft (Bloomington, Ill./Normal Community) and
Jessica Minkov (Schiller Park, Ill./East Leyden) picked up an 8-1 victory at No. 3, and sophomore
Molly Rueth (Wheaton, Ill./Glenbard West) and freshman
Megan Setter (Kenosha, Wis./St. Joseph Catholic Academy) combined for an 8-3 win at the second position soon after.
Juniors
Paige Nierman (Hawthorn Woods, Ill./Stevenson) and
Sabrina Palavra (Skokie, Ill./Niles North) made it 3-0 with an 8-3 triumph at the No. 1 spot.
Sophomore
Elsie Ha (Palatine, Ill./Fremd) opened scoring for UW-Whitewater in singles play with a 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 5. Palavra clinched the match for the Warhawks with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 3.
Freshman
Courtney Day (Oshkosh, Wis./North) earned a 6-0, 6-2 triumph in her UW-W debut at the sixth position, and Nierman tallied a 6-0, 6-3 victory at No. 1.
Senior
Madeline Slicker (Mequon, Wis./Homestead) collected a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 4, and Kraft completed the sweep at No. 2 with a 6-4, 6-4 triumph.
The Warhawks host the eight-team Warhawk Invitational Saturday starting at 9 a.m. at Wangerin Courts.
