The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater tennis team concluded play in the NCAA Tournament Saturday morning at Wangerin Courts.

The No. 36 Warhawks (13-12) fell to No. 27 Carleton College (20-2) in the third match of the season between the two regional opponents.Â
UW-Whitewater concludes another championship season, claiming its 12th straight Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title and 12th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance.

The Warhawks started out with a lone point in doubles. Sophomore
Paige Nierman (Hawthorn Woods, Ill./Stevenson) and freshman
Molly Rueth (Wheaton, Ill./Glenbard West) claimed a dominant 8-1 victory in the third slot to avoid a sweep heading into singles.

In singles, senior
Gabi Kitchell (Wausau, Wis./D.C. Everest) claimed a 6-0, 6-3 victory in the top slot. The Warhawks pushed three other singles contest to three sets, but were unable to claim a point before the Knights claimed the decisive fifth point.

The Warhawks have concluded team play for the season. Kitchell will return to the court May 23rd in Kalamazoo, Mich. for the NCAA Individual Tournament. Match times are to be determined.
