The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's tennis squad hosted Coe (Iowa) at Lake Geneva Tennis Sunday afternoon due to the potential of inclement weather.
 
The No. 38 Warhawks (11-5) edged out their regional rival Coe (15-7) by a 5-4 score. 
 
In doubles, senior Jimmy Engelhart (Brookfield, Wis./East) (Brookfield, Wis./East) and freshman Alex Gray (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) led the way for the Warhawks, taking the first slot and lone Warhawks doubles point in an 8-4 affair.
 
Heading into singles, Engelhart and Gray combined for two of the first three singles points for the Warhawks with 6-1, 7-5 and 6-2, 6-1 victories, respectively.  Freshman Brendan Pietila (Sussex, Wis./Arrowhead) pushed them closer to victory with a 6-2, 6-2 win in the fifth slot. 
 
The Warhawks dropped the second and third slots, leaving it to junior Zach Wood (Downers Grove, Ill./South) (Downers Grove, Ill./South) in the sixth slot to decide the match.  Wood clinched the match in dominating fashion with 6-1, 6-1 sets. 
 
The Warhawks will return to action 2 p.m. next Saturday as they visit UW-La Crosse in an in-state showdown.
