The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's tennis squad hosted Kalamazoo (Mich.) for Senior Day Sunday afternoon at Wangerin Courts.

The Warhawks (15-7) fell just short in their comeback effort against nationally-ranked No. 27 Kalamazoo (11-6) by a narrow 5-4 margin on Senior Day.

In doubles, the Warhawks claimed one of three points in the third slot. Junior
Zach Wood (Downers Grove, Ill./South) and freshman
Ryan Mitchell (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) put together a strong 8-2 victory to prevent the Warhawks from being shut out in doubles.

The Warhawks headed into singles down one and dropped the first two matches in singles to find themselves in a precarious situation. Senior
Brandon Dechter (Mundelein, Ill./Carmel Catholic) and freshman
Alex Gray (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) struck back first, the former with a 7-6 (3), 6-3 victory in the second slot and the latter with a 6-3, 6-3 point in the third slot. Mitchell continued his strong day with a 7-5, 2-6, 6-0 victory in the fourth slot.

At 4-4 apiece, the match came down to Wood in the fifth slot. He started out with a 7-5 (6) victory in the first set before dropping the second 4-6. Wood unfortunately fell in the last set, 1-6.

The Warhawks have concluded regular season play and will wait to find out their NCAA Tournament fate. It will be revealed in a press release on NCAA.com May 6.
Senior
Jimmy Engelhart (Brookfield, Wis./East) was recognized following Sunday's match, his final home contest. A captain, Engelhart recently eclipsed 100 career wins and is a three-year member of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Scholastic Honor Roll and a three-time Intercollegiate Tennis Association Scholar-Athlete. He finished the 2016-17 season 10th in the ITA's Central Region doubles rankings with playing partner
Zane Navratil (Racine, Wis./The Prairie School).
