Trewyn Signs Free Agent Contract With Tampa Bay Buccaneers

University of Wisconsin-Whitewater football standout Nate Trewyn (Janesville, Wis./Milton) has signed a contract as an undrafted free agent with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the National Football League according to a report by Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Trewyn, a center, is the first Warhawk to earn an NFL contract since 2015, when Jake Kumerow was signed by the Cincinnati Bengals.

Trewyn was a three-year starter at UW-Whitewater after transferring from Division II Minnesota State Mankato. He was a three-year All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference selection, including first team honors in 2016 and 2018.

In 2018, Trewyn helped lead the Warhawks to the program's 36th WIAC championship and 11th appearance in the NCAA Division III national semifinals. He was named a Rimington Award winner as the top center in Division III and garnered All-America accolades from the Associated Press, D3football.com and the American Football Coaches Association.

With his college eligibility exhausted, Trewyn earned a spot in the NFL Players Association Collegiate Bowl in January, showcasing his skills as one of 112 draft-eligible seniors and the only representative of a Division III school.

Trewyn played in 35 of 37 games during his career at UW-Whitewater, helping the team post a cumulative record of 32-5 over that span. He was equally successful off the field, earning a semifinalist nod for the National Football Foundation/College Football Hall of Fame William V. Campbell Trophy (nation's top scholar-athlete). Trewyn will be recognized as a UW-Whitewater Chancellor's Scholar-Athlete in May.
