The No. 18 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater baseball team posted another strong offensive performance Wednesday afternoon, defeating St. Norbert 11-1 in a non-conference contest at Prucha Field at James B. Miller Stadium.
The Warhawks (23-6 overall) claimed their 13th straight win and scored 10-plus runs for the fourth straight game and eighth time in their last nine.
Senior second baseman
Nick Schrader (Cambridge, Wis./Jefferson) finished 4-for-4 with four run scored and two runs batted in, and sophomore shortstop
Nick Santoro (Naperville, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) registered three hits, three runs scored and two RBI.
Senior catcher
Mike Aiello (Racine, Wis./Horlick) tallied two hits and two runs scored, and senior third baseman
Cal Aldridge (Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge) knocked in two runs.
Sophomore
Connor Spear (Highland, Ind./Mount Carmel (Ill.)) allowed only one hit and struck out four over three innings for his fifth victory of the year. Junior
Riley Gruetzmacher (Oconto Falls, Wis./Oconto Falls) tossed two innings in relief, and freshman
Hayden Fox (Stockton, Ill./Stockton) and junior
Keith Kutzler (Kenosha, Wis./Tremper) each pitched a scoreless frame.
Aldridge started the scoring in the bottom of the first on an RBI double to left center to plate Schrader.
UW-Whitewater broke the game open with five in the third inning as Santoro, Schrader and Doud each posted run-scoring hits. Korman added a sacrifice fly to make it a 6-0 score.
Santoro and Schrader hit back-to-back homers in the fourth, with Schrader's coming inside the park. The Warhawks added another run in the frame for a 9-0 advantage.
After the Green Knights (13-14) got on the board in the top of the fifth, Aldridge hit a sacrifice fly and freshman catcher
Ryan Norton (Fond du Lac, Wis./Fond du Lac) posted a run-scoring groundout in the sixth.
UW-Whitewater returns to Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play Saturday with a doubleheader at UW-La Crosse. First pitch is slated for 12 p.m.
