The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's tennis team extended its win streak to five matches Sunday before seeing the run come to an end later that day as it split a pair of dual matches at Lake Geneva Tennis in Lake Geneva.
The Warhawks (7-2 overall) bested regional foe Augustana (Ill.) by a 7-2 score before falling 8-0 against NAIA opponent Cardinal Stritch.
Against Augustana (9-4), UW-Whitewater swept all three doubles matches. Junior

Ryan Mitchell (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) gave the Warhawks an early lead with an 8-1 triumph at No. 2 doubles. Senior
Jimmy Engelhart (Brookfield, Wis./East) and freshman
Alex Gray (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) followed suit at No. 1 with an 8-4 win, and sophomore
Robert Rider (Annapolis, Md./South River) and freshman
Noah Guillermo (Muskego, Wis./Marquette University HS) finished the sweep via tiebreaker in an 8-7 (4) victory.
Mitchell claimed a 6-1, 6-1 triumph at No. 2 singles to give the team a 4-0 lead before the Vikings tallied their first point of the match. Wood clinched the match in the next decision with a 6-4, 7-6 (11) win at No. 5.
Other winners included Guillermo at No. 6 in straight sets, and Gray at No. 3, where he posted a 7-5, 4-6, 1-0 (10-7) victory.
UW-Whitewater fell behind quickly against Cardinal Stritch (5-4) with three doubles setbacks. Engelhart and Gray were tied 3-3 at the top slot before dropping five of the next seven games in an 8-5 loss.
Engelhart also played a tight contest at No. 1 singles, dropping the final two games in his first set after being tied 5-5 and falling in the second set by a 6-4 count.
The Warhawks begin their annual spring break trop Friday against fellow independent and No. 30 ranked College of New Jersey. Matches begin at 9:30 a.m. Central Time in Fredericksburg, Va.
