Men Sixth, Women Seventh After Day 1 at WIAC Championships

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's and women's track and field teams completed competition Friday on the first day of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships (Presented by Culver's) at Kachel Fieldhouse.
 
The Warhawk men scored 26 points and are sixth through the first day of events, while the women scored 19.50 and are seventh.
 
Junior Zach Jasinski (Sussex, Wis./Hamilton) highlighted the men's day with his second straight WIAC championship in the pole vault. He posted a height of 16-01.75 (4.92 meters).
 
The men's distance medley relay team of sophomores Brian Kuehl (Geneva, Ill./Geneva), Luke Sutherland (St. Charles, Ill./North), junior Clinten Woerishofer (Appleton, Wis./North) and sophomore David Fassbender (Slinger, Wis./Slinger) earned second team All-WIAC honors with a runner-up finish in a time of 10:22.20, which currently ranks among the nation's top 20.
 
Sophomore Landon Zimmerman (New Glarus, Wis./New Glarus) earned the first top-eight indoor finish of his career with a 50-01.25 (15.27 meters) in the shot put, good for fifth place. Junior Alex Duff (Oregon, Wis./Oregon) collected a medal in the 400-meter dash with a season-best mark of 49.62 seconds, good for fifth place.
 
UW-Whitewater qualified two each in the 60-meter dash and 60-meter hurdles. Sophomore Dwayne Ford (Racine, Wis./Case) placed fourth in the prelims with a career-best time of 6.95 seconds, and sophomore Tyreik Thomas (Racine, Wis./Case) also cracked seven seconds with a personal-record mark of 6.99, good for seventh. Duff qualified second in the 60 hurdles with a season-best time of 8.16, and freshman Landon Keefover (Antioch, Ill./Antioch) reached Saturday's final in 8.45 seconds, the sixth-fastest preliminary time.
 
Junior Greg Hatzinger (Marshall, Wis./Marshall) stands eighth through four events of the heptathlon with a score of 2561.
 
Junior Abbie Felton led the women with an all-conference finish in the 400-meter dash, crossing the finish line in 58.14 seconds, good for third place.
 
The Warhawks' distance medley relay team of sophomore Hailey Van Ells, senior Jordan Tokarski, senior Tiffany Bianco and sophomore Jessie Braun placed fourth in 12:42.61, a season best.
 
Junior Ashton Doll posted a personal-record height of 5-03.75 (1.62 meters) in the high jump to place sixth in the event. Sophomore Raevin Peek joined her on the podium with her mark of 5-01.75 (1.57 meters), good for a tie for eighth place.
 
Junior Madi McDonald tallied an 11-02.25 (3.41 meters) on pole vault, good for a tie for sixth place. Sophomore Sydney Davidson tied for eighth in the same event with the same mark on her second attempt.
 
Sophomore Shelby Nickels placed seventh in the long jump with a result of 17-09.00 (5.41 meters). Freshman Kailey Reynolds qualified eighth in the 60-meter dash in 7.97 seconds, her fastest result of the season.
 
Competition resumes Saturday at 10 a.m.
